Finally, the first results of some hard work! Our work highlights the potential of metabarcoding for intraspecific diversity studies in dung beetles. We found that most haplotypes are widespread throughout the study area, but some are detected in only one area and could represent rare haplotypes that are geographically confined. Although these results must be confirmed by using more samples, our findings indicate the possible use of metabarcoding to inform conservation strategies for overlooked taxa such as most insects.
